Summer News!

    Ah Summer time! Fireworks, BBQ, swimming, road trips and surrounding them all, a constant haze of drugs an alcohol. Boy do we have some plans! So let's get to it shall we?
    First, we have been invited to close the first night of the 25th annual "Colorado Invitational" (aka, Bong-a-thon, but don't tell nobody). The event will be underneath a full Colorado moon on the weekend of June 25th. Your purchase of $125 pass gets you 2 nights of camping, beer, food and live music. Of course the only way to find out the top secret location is to buy a pass from us, so get in touch if you'd like to take part in Colorado History.
    On June 26th, we will be providing main support for Reno Divorce @ Moe's BBQ in Englewood CO along with DB and The Catastrophe. It's a 16+ show, so all you young'uns can finally come on out!
    Love America? No? Ok, how bout explosions and booze? Thought so... Join us @ 3 Kings Tavern in Denver this 4th of July for a Rock n Roll Revolution! Lots of bands, lots of booze and the good times you've come to expect from 3 Kings. Your mind may blot out the memory, but your liver will never forget.

It's been a while so there are a few things you all should know!

A new single "Balls of Steel" is being recorded and we'll be shooting the video for it at the The Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown April 23rd-25th. PINBALL GROUPIES WELCOME. Come shake your ass and help us out. All the information for the weekend is available @ http://www.pinballshowdown.com/.

We're stoked to be playing, once again, with Nashville Pussy and Green Jello in Denver @ Cervantes Thursday May, 6th.

This month we'll be playing: 

We'll be hitting the road this summer for a west coast tour in July/August. Prepare yourselves: a week up Northwest in Seattle and Portland, a week in the Bay Area and down to southern California. Check back, we'll update the calendar with all the details.

And lastly, I'm the new master. I update the website and I breath fire. Hopefully we'll get a little bit more going on around these parts. I'm working on the photo gallery and getting all the videos of high enough quality archived on the site. Until next time...

Best of the West Details!!!

What Follows is an email we received from Herman's Hideaway with the details for our upcoming semi-finals bout on Jan 22nd. Afterwards, keep reading for additional info from us!:

CONGRATULATIONS ON MAKING IT TO THE SEMI FINALS OF THE BEST OF THE WEST MUSIC SERIES!!!!

Remember the top two bands from each Semi Final will advance to the Finals!!!

You are the Top NINE bands in the state and Westword, Herman's Hideaway, Colorado Sound & Red Rocks are all VERY excited about this group representing the Mile High City. 

What you're competing for: 

The Grand Prize is: $4,000 cash, 50 hours of recording/mixing/mastering @ Colorado Sound with JP Manza (estimated value $7000), Main Stage for the 2010 Summer Series of Film on the Rocks @ Red Rocks, a professional photo shoot, a regional endorsement from Sabian Cymbals, a custom banner for your band (4' x 20' full color) from Coors/Blue Moon and more!

We want to be clear on how the event is going to be judged in the Semi Finals and the Finals. 

1) Quality of Your Performance

Basically how good you perform. How is your stage presence, your musicianship, chemistry, image, sound, originality, etc...

2) Crowd Appeal (Draw)

Red Rocks needs to know you can help fill a multi thousand person venue!! **Know that for the final rounds of this music series that draw is a HUGE deciding factor and judges will take your final ticket count and crowd reaction into consideration when making their decision. We will use a DB meter at the end of the night--not after each band's performance....so keep your fans around till the end!

3) Commercial Appeal/Producability

 

We are looking for a band that has the ability to record an amazing album, appeal to an audience, sell records, sell tickets and represent the Mile High City. Colorado Sound and Red Rocks are a very big part of this event so they will be looking for a band that can go the distance!

**Draw will determine the order in the Finals. The top drawing band in the Semi Finals will have first choice of their slot in the Finals on Feb. 26th, the 2nd highest drawing band will choose second and so forth.  The top two bands from each Semi Final will advance to the Finals!!!

Each band is still guaranteed $100 but if you work extremely hard and draw a large crowd (70+ people) you will receive a substantial cash bonus from Herman's Hideaway!

Here are ways you can bring your people and boost your draw:

1) Hard Tickets (If you have not picked them up please do ASAP--they are here and ready to be picked up!!! If you need to come during the day give us a call at 303.777.2535)

2) Online Tickets--we emailed you all a JPEG of your night's ticket. Post those to your web sites/MySpace/Facebook and send them in EMails. 

 

3) Text Tickets--send out a text saying "(Your Band) is playing (date) in the Semi Finals of Westword's Best of the West @ Herman's Hideaway. Show this text at the door for 1/2 price admission!)

 

4) SECRET ADMISSION PHRASE--Every band can have a code word/phrase that your fans can say at the door. You guys can come up with your band's secret phrase (ex: the best song off your last album). Shoot us an email or tell us at the beginning of the night what your code/phrase is so we know before your show. This will get your fans in for 1/2 price.

 

**Online voting, which accounts for a small percentage of your total score at the end of the entire competition, will start at the end of the week at LocalsCut.com. 

Your fans can vote until the Thursday before the Finals. **We will also take the amount of votes your band gets on line prior to your Semi Final into account when choosing which bands advance--but ultimately online voting will be used as a factor to help us determine the winner of Best of the West after Feb. 26th.

December/January News

First off, sorry about the problems with last month's newsletter. I think the problem should be fixed now. So what's new? For starters, we won our preliminary round of Best of the West @ Herman's Hideaway (Despite the fact that the sound console crapped out before our set). We will be playing in the Semi Finals on January 22nd also @ Herman's. Thanks to everybody who came out and supported us, we truly appreciate it. For more info, go to www.hermanshideaway.com.

If you haven't made New Year's plans yet (And even if you have, cancel them) then plan on coming out to 3 Kings for our annual bash with Frontside Five, King Rat and more. Stick around after the show for The Gauntlet drinking challenge between FORTH YEER, Frontside Five and KJing Rat to determine set times for next year. 4 man teams, 5 beers each, fastest to complete wins. Our team will consist of Jerry, Logan, Ty and myself.

Saturday January 16th, we will return to Grand Junction Colorado @ the new Tenacious Brothers Pub. Be sure to listen to the Tommy Rocker show on 95.1 in Grand Junction on Friday January 15th to hear an interview with me as well as some tracks off of our album "Regulators".

January 30th @ The Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins, CO, we will be joining our good gal pals Hell's Belles for an evening not to be missed. It's our first time @ The Aggie too, so we're pretty stoked.

We're also now entered in Colorado Music Buzz's Band Wagon Contest (I know...ANOTHER competition?). You can vote by going to http://www.coloradomusicbuzz.com/index.asp?mode=bandwagon. Unlike the other contests we've been doing, you can only vote once and you don't have to attend any shows. So come on, do your part!
